Who many time an LTO Tape will stay good before it goes bad

Hi

Many people talked about how LTO is faster and good compare to DLT tape.

But my concern is how many time the LTO tape can be reused before it goes bad. meaning it cannot write anymore data to it? or before the Tape library report it status as "poor"

According to Ultrium media quickspecs:

Ultrium media is certified for 1 million passes or 260 full back ups and has a 30-year archival storage life.

But a tape shown as "poor" on Dataprotector or other backup software can be due to the tape drive, or incompatible firmware and software versions.

Even though the question is closed.

There is only 2 major diffences on LTO vs SDLT.

1. The tape leader system is better on the LTO.

2. LTO can reduce speed, down to 1/3. That's the speed of the reel rotation.
This reduce shoe shining, wich lowers the tear on the tape.

Life time / cleaning need is appr. the same.
I haven't compared specs on SDLT lately, so I don't know if it has been outperformed.

Hi ,

I see in your link (Quick Sepcs of HP Ultrium Media).
At warranty and support told that it is limited life time warranty.
I don't understand how long is warranty ?
If it was bed can i replace new ultrium Cartridge ?

Lifetime warrenty, is normally 5 years after last production date.

Limited mean, warrenty only cover, if part is failed due to production failure.
Wich mean if the tape fail due to handling, like if you drop it (1 meter, the (S)DLT is dead), if you have got enviromental problems or if it's destroyed by failing tape drive. Also only the cartridge is cover, not DATA loss.
