c1533a error writing file mark - bad data

hi i have a c1533a on an xp pro pentium 4 - and after the tape drive has been working fine it has started bringing up this error message each time i try to backup. (using ntbackup.exe)

error writing file mark to media may be a hardware or media problem: cause bad data.

i have checked the tapes and used new tapes and they seem to be ok. anyone got any ideas of what i can try next. i have run the diagnostics on the LT&T and they have all thrown up errors too - its looking like a bad tape drive but still hoping it isnt!!! - help

yes i had thought it may be a problem with cleaning so i have recently used a cleaning tape to try and find the problem. but it still shows the error.

Hi, I have noticed your post, and I know it is almost a year ago. Yet, I am currently experiencing the same problem with my tape drive. I am wondering what was the solution you found at the time. Was it the bad tape drive or? Hope you can help me on this issue, thank you.
