change of SCSI ID

hi All,

suddenly found that the SCSI ID of a direct attached SCSI Tape Drive was changed on a HPUX 11.31 system.

anyone can help? since i have no idea why the SCSI ID has been changed.

i have run "Bastille" to hardening the HPUX system, will that be the case?

thx so much.

Re: change of SCSI ID

Changing the SCSI ID of a standalone drive can only be done by physically moving switches ...

Hope this helps!

Re: change of SCSI ID

ooh sorry, i got a mistake. what i am asking for is the column I after running #ioscan -fnC tape.

before the change, by running ioscan -fnC tape, the "I" of the tape drive is 2, also it refer to device file /dev/rmt/2m

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=================================================================================
tape 2 0/2/0/0/0/0.1.5.255.0.0.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 4-SCSI
/dev/rmt/2m /dev/rmt/c13t0d0BEST
/dev/rmt/2mb /dev/rmt/c13t0d0BESTb
/dev/rmt/2mn /dev/rmt/c13t0d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/2mnb /dev/rmt/c13t0d0BESTnb

but after the suddenly change, the "I" change to 1, and the device file change to /dev/rmt/1m

Re: change of SCSI ID

yes, as below.

change are the "I" column and the device file, but no change on the hardware path.

Re: change of SCSI ID

I'm sure the drive is part of a library - any related changes made?

Hope this helps!

Re: change of SCSI ID

I really doubt about a relation with bastille, but maybe the reboot after another related change in your environment.
What library is it?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: change of SCSI ID

Hi,

check the time stamp of these file.
Can you show us /dev/rmt?

Normally /dev/rmt/0m is created the first time a tape is configured to a system.
When other tapes are added, then 0 is counted up to 1, then 2 ...

Maybe after reboot the system recognized, that 0 was no longer used ...
