daisy-chaining drives
I want to add another C1537A tape drive to my SCSI chain. Currently I have one C1537A running just fine using an internal SCSI card. I tried adding the 2nd drive by changing its SCSI ID to 3 (the first drive has ID 2) and connecting a SCSI cable from the 1st drive to the 2nd drive (leaving the terminator attached to the 2nd drive).
I cannot get the 2nd drive to be recognized. It is not recognized in the SCSI utility when the computer boots up, or from the NOS (NetWare 5.1) or from the backup software.
What am I missing????
Thanks,
Jane

Re: daisy-chaining drives
Dear Jane,
Try the second drive on its own and watch the SCSI address displayed on boot. (This is the SCSI BIOS on the HBA). I suggest that you have the jumpers set incorrectly, another device present at address 3 or you have a SCSI cable problem. You are troubleshooting at the correct level, because if the SCSI BIOS cannot see the device at boot then the NOS never is!

Re: daisy-chaining drives
Thanks for the reply. It turned out I had a bad cable! I forgot the IT maxim to rule out the obvious before looking for the unusual...
