dds-3 tapes

I see that there is a warranty on the dds-3 tapes but I don't know how long they should last. We have been running into a problem where the DAT24 drive tries to rewind the tape and then spits it out. I have cleaned the heads every week for the last month which helped on some of the tapes but other refuse to be used. Some of these are brand new. Is it possible that I can reformat them. Is there a way to return them? I'm at a loss as to what to try next but I just purchased another 6 within the last 2 months and half of those won't alow e to backup.

go to http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50128.html and get HP LTT. Install it, use it to analyze your drive. Try running test on different tapes. See what this utility will suggest. Generate support ticket and attach zipped to your next reply

I forgot to mention that I went to download the HP LTT file and I could only find a version for Novell 5 and above. We are running 4.1. Will the program work with 4.1?

Looks like no (5.1 and above). Here's more recent link http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html
But you can connect this drive to windows machine to see if it will behave the same with these tapes (you can use native NTbackup) and tun LTT there

Sorry, I this is an internal drive installed in a novell server. I really don't want to uninstall it.
Will this program work on a client and test it on the server?

Hi,

Did you follow the link I posted and follow the LTT Netware link available from it? Maybe you didn't since you are running an older version of LTT - 3.1

The latest LTT version, available is 3.2SR1 and I would encourage you to use this.

If you read the text on the link below (this link was available from the link I posted above) you will see that there have been problems reported on 3.0 and 3.1 with Netware that are being worked on.

There are also some installation tips on this link that you would be adivsed to follow.

When I unzip file hp_ltt32sr1_nw.zip, even from the link you provide , the hp_ltt.nlm is ver 3.01a date May 26, 2003.
