dds1 catridge backup problem

I have dds4 dat40 tape drive(hp) i installed in winxp and iam working with dds4 catridges but it will not working with dds1 catridge and give information about what type of formats will supports the data format of dds1 catridge is .dmp which we are getting information from exchange. when we are attend to backup or restore it will giving an alert (block size is too large and sending on attachment error log file

please give suggestion or solution

DAT drives only read back 2 generations so the DAT 40 will not read DDS 1 tapes.
