dlt vs 40/80on Linux

Hi,
I've to backup up to 60 GB (almost text) on my DLT unit. I'm using Linux and st/mt driver/utility.
It works up to 40 GB, so it's clear that the hw compression is not working.
I think that the problem is the density code, the default is 0x40 (mt -f /var/st0 setdensity 0x40).
Any idea?
Does someone also knows how to speed up the backup operation? I'm using the onboard SCSI interface on a IBM X345 server.
Best regards - Gianni

Hi there.
DId you check your DLT, how to activate the HW compression ?
What's the DLT manufacturer ?

It's a Surestore DLT VS 40/80 by HP. I've searched everywhere for information, but I couldn't find any.
Thank you

Re: dlt vs 40/80on Linux

Solved.
I don't know why the compression was disabled (it should be enabled by default).
Again, I don't know why the option "compress" for the mt command does not work on my system.
However, using the option "defcompression", the compression works fine.
I could also speed up the process setting the block size for the tar command:
tar /dev/st0 file1 file2 file3 -b 128.
Best regards
