Hi,

I have a really strange output from mt status.
I also have problems when writing.
The device name in the mt status look a bit strange.

any idea? Thanks,

Michael

pra03d />tar cv /etc
a /etc/
a /etc/fstab 2 Blocks
a /etc/.mrg..binlog.conf 5 Blocks
tar: write : I/O error
tar: A write error has occurred.

Re: dlt8000 error when writing

OS type and version would have been handy...
Tru64 V5.xy ?

Is the tapedrive type known in /etc/ddr.dbase ?

hwmgr get attrib -id xyz ?

Re: dlt8000 error when writing

Johan,

os is 5.1B-2. The tape drive in question is a dlt 40/80 which we use already a lot.
The only thing that comes to my mind is that I updated the firmware of the ds25 to 6.9-2.
Are there any issues with that?
The tape string looks somewhat garbled to me.

thanks,

Michael

Re: dlt8000 error when writing

Michael,
That are not the attributes of a tape-drive, maybe you mistakenly used the -id with the number of the DID instead of the HWID.
So you are sure there is a DLT8000 entry in ddr.dbase ?

Any entries in binary.errlog associated with the "write I/O error" ?

file /dev/ntape/tape0c ?

Re: dlt8000 error when writing

The "mt status" says /dev/ntape/tape0_d1 is an RDAT of type DDT0000, while you think its an DLT8000, it also tells the hardware error count = 14.

The console firmware upgrade does not touch the drive, only the system and potentially the PCI interface cards.

Re: dlt8000 error when writing

Johan,

thanks for your answers. It was indeed did 3. After I switched the tape to another machine, which could see it correclty I switched it back did a hwmgr -del and a hwmgr -scan and it worked.

thanks,

Michael
