e1200-320 4Gb Fiber Channel Interface Card

Hi,

I'm trying to decide if i need two 4GB FC cards for an MSL6060 with 4 LTO-4 drives, or if one is enough.
Is there any speed advantage in having 2 instead of one?

thanks,
Fran

You can choose one card with dual FC HBA 4 GB ports or two FC HBA cards with one FC HBA port on each card.

MSL6060 Lib has got 2 FC HBA ports so you need same two for redundancy and performance too.

The Ultrium 4 drives need the full SCSI channel for each one. Each NSR has 2 SCSI channels, so you'll need 2 NSR to connect the 4 drives.
Connecting 2 Ultrium drives on the same channel is not recommended.

I might be late on this response but I also recommend you to check this advisory:

There is no NSR card with two 4G fc ports.

You will definitely want two NSRs, and even those, I believe will be a bottleneck for LTO-4. I'm pretty sure the bandwidth tops out at 230 MB/s (I get 215 tops writing to two drives). Search for lto-4 to find a few threads about this.

If this is not already bought, I'd recommend you look at the direct fibre msl4048, etc... libraries...
Can you imagine if we used PCs to manage our enterprise systems? ... oops.
