experience with 4mm repairs??
I had two 4mm tape drives die this week. I see a coupke of places that offer repairs & refurbished drives (mine were 35470A & 34580A).
Has anybody had experience with these places? Can you make a reccomendation for or against the quality of a repaired or refurbished drive?

Re: experience with 4mm repairs??
If you don't mind a belated reply ... :-)
One place I've worked with is Pacific Data. They do repair drives, as well as selling refurbs.
We had an internal tape drive die a few months ago, and I checked their price sheet for drive repairs. But the way the numbers came out, we were just as well off to get a refurb, so we did just that. And we've had no trouble at all with the replacement drive.
Based on that experience, I'd order a repaired or refurbished drive if it had a warranty and the vendor had a good reputation for upholding its warranties. And in the specific case of Pacific Data, I'd do business with them again in a heartbeat.
Hope that's useful info ...
