I was told by email from an HP rep that there was no intention to fix this problem. Should I now treat this as a dead issue, and plan on investing in an alternative product (probably not HP!) Thanks.

Micah, I guess the problem in question is the same as the one discussed in multiple other threads in this discussion group - external colorado drives and XP ...
