fbackup / frestore
Is there any way of reading the Magic Field / label / volume header of the fbackup tape.
I'm after finding out how many times a particular tape has been used, ie Media Use.
Looking at the config file the maxvoluses is set at 100 as default, is this written to the Magic Field or is it compared against a incremental value on the Tape.
Using HP UX 11.00
Thanks

Re: fbackup / frestore
Hi,
Very simple - just do a frecover with the -V path option. This writes the volume header to the chosen path. The fields available are listed in the frecover man page, and in fact 'Media Use:' is one of the fields.
Regards,
Mark

Re: fbackup / frestore
Thankyou for the reply.
I've tried the -V option with a path, but it comes up with an error.
'did not find expected file format.
not an fbackup volume, magic value is incorrect
didn't find expected file marker'
selecting the try to recover =y results in a file with the magic fields displayed with no values.
Any ideas?
