firmware upgrade MSL6000

i got MSL6000 system with firmwares listed below. should i upgrade 0518 and F68W (L&TT says) ?
MSL6000 --> 0516
Ultrium2-SCSI --> F59W

is it really important to upgrade firmware? my system has been working with no problem since a year.

if yes, when to upgrade it?
and last question: how long does it take to upgrade firmware?

Thanks all.

Re: firmware upgrade MSL6000

It is important to keep up with firmware mainly for support purposes. You do not want to find yourself in an unsupported configuration if something happens since you will most likely be required to upgrade at that point in time.

Since it is a backup system, you probably want to do it during a down time period for your backup schedule... early in the day long before your scheduled backup window.

Upgrading takes minutes.. 10 minutes.. 15 minutes tops. I've upgraded an MSL, the drives in it and the NSR in less than 20 minutes, probably less then 15 if I subtract the time I spent doing something else after the library was complete.
