Re: fitting 2x ultrium tape drives to a ML570 server
i have looked at the back and there is only one wide scsi and that is being used by the existing tape drive, there are two narrow scsi ports but the IT manager refuses to use them as he says bandwidth is not as good and they are 'probably' raid controllers...thats why i want to open it up and have a look.

Re: fitting 2x ultrium tape drives to a ML570 server
using two LTO on the same scsi but is possible, if you use them alternatively.
If you plan to use both LTO2 drives at the same time, you should considere to have each of them on a dedicated scsi bus (could be also a HBA with dual controller)
The main problem would be that using two LTO2 drives attached to the same server, suppose you are getting data from the LAN.
Are you sure the LAN, the LAN controller, the server will all be able to feed data fast enough to keep those two unit in streaming mode?
You may run in trouble if you do not check carefully the power of your infrastructure, that is not enough to see if the drives can be connected to a old generation server, but you should also considere how it will work.
