how many times we can take backup on DLT Cartridge tape ?

Dear Friends,
We have HP Tru64 Unic machine having HP Quantum DLT Drive 40/80GB.
We use the cartridge tape of HP as well as SONY .
How many times we take the backup on that Cartidge tape so that these tapes are reliable to take backup ? & Also how many times we can use HP/SONY Cleaning TAPE ?

Hi,

We've been using some of our backup tapes on a 40/80GB DLT for years without any problems.

What you might want to do of course is to check the validity of your backups by restoring them to an alternative location.

A DLT cleaning tape has a lifespan of 20 cleaning cycles. After that it should be discarded.

We are using backup tapes uptill it damages the DLT Drive.
Thats's why we need to determine the life of DLT Cartridge i. e how may times it can be rewrite/overwrite ?
