how to use new DDS tape

Dear All,

Can you help me:
How to use a new DDS tape?
My DDS tape type is HP DAT 72(C8010A)

Should we need to format it while using new tape? If need how can it do?

Thanks!

Re: how to use new DDS tape

Hello,

I think you can simply go ahead and use it. Just confirm that it is detected by the system. You can use following commands:

# diskinfo /dev/rmt/0mn # Size
# mt -f status # online
# mt -f rew # rewind
Don't fix what ain't broke

There is no need to format or rewind the tape . You can directly insert it and use it . you can check the device name by using following command

ioscan -fnC tape

No need, usually we d'not perform any format on tapes, hope they are already formatted and Quality Check passed , Once they come out from the factory.

# man mt
# man diskinfo

its depend what purpose you are using for ?

are you using for Ignite backup ? than you d'not need rewind nothing just instert the tape and run OS Ignite backup (make_tape_recovery)

if your using tapes for backup using (tar, fbackup) some times you may need to "rewind"

Problems are common to all, but attitude makes the difference
