how to use new DDS tape
Can you help me:
How to use a new DDS tape?
My DDS tape type is HP DAT 72(C8010A)
Should we need to format it while using new tape? If need how can it do?

I think you can simply go ahead and use it. Just confirm that it is detected by the system. You can use following commands:
# diskinfo /dev/rmt/0mn # Size
# mt -f
# mt -f

No need, usually we d'not perform any format on tapes, hope they are already formatted and Quality Check passed , Once they come out from the factory.
# man mt
# man diskinfo
its depend what purpose you are using for ?
are you using for Ignite backup ? than you d'not need rewind nothing just instert the tape and run OS Ignite backup (make_tape_recovery)
if your using tapes for backup using (tar,fbackup) some times you may need to "rewind"
