howto 2nd tape drive for MSL5026 with NSR

Hello. I've just purchased a second SDLT tape drive for an existing MSL5026 library(NSR connected)
No cables came with the additional drive so I assume it is correct procedure to just slide the new drive into the slot and reboot the NSR / Library to install? Would this be correct?

Hi,

you need to install a SCSI cable between the free connector of the NSR and the drive. Additionally you need to install a terminator on the second drive port.

Hope this helps!

Re: howto 2nd tape drive for MSL5026 with NSR

I've added the second cable now, the NSR recognises the tape is there. Also if I go to the web interface on the msl5000 I can see the two tape drives. The windows based backup server does not show the second tape drive in device manager though. I think the mappings are correct. The new tape drive is the last one on the list:

FC LUN Protocol Bus Device Specific Address Type Status Device Description
0 AF Lun= 0 CTLR UP HP NS E1200-160
1 PSCSI 0 Target= 0 Lun= 0 CHGR UP COMPAQ MSL5000 Series 0507
2 PSCSI 0 Target= 1 Lun= 0 TAPE UP COMPAQ SDLT320 5555
3 PSCSI 1 Target= 2 Lun= 0 TAPE UP COMPAQ SDLT320 5555

Any ideas how to get the windows server and backup exec to pick it up?

You should refer to your backup software's documentation now...

Hope this helps!

Thing is I don't think I'm that far on yet. I think the second tape drive must appear in device mgr in windows before I can use it with the backup software.
I can see the original tape drive, the nsr and auto changer in device mgr, I can't see the second tape drive.
Do the mappings look ok?

Hi,

I assume that you've either rebooted the Windows server, or scanned for hardware changes...?

Hope this helps,

I just rebooted the library and the server and now I can see both drives. Apologies I should have tried rebooting the library not just the server but I didnt think to. Thanks a lot.

Also fyi backup exec picks up the new drive automatically.
