hp Proliant ML350 G3 + Storeworks DAT 40 reading problem

Hi.
I've a server hp ProLiant ML350 G3 running Windows 2003 Server (SP1) and a hp StorageWorks DAT 40 SCSI tape drive (C5683A).
I've installed the drive end the system has recognized it.
The drive come with Tapeware Backup software, but first I've tried to make backups with the ntbackup software.
I run ntbackup, after insert the tape on the drive, and choose to make a new backup.
The backup run and finish without any problems and eject the tape. But when I try to recover the data inside the tape, I insert the tape on the drive and the application says that it is a new tape, and label it with a number (eg. 42). So I never can restore the data because the tape is always changing it name.
With the software that come with the tape is the samething.
I run the HP LTT software and it works fine till the moment of reading the data (on the Read/Write Test), it send the error: "Drive reported unrecovered I/O error condition, test phase cannot proceed", and the test fail.

Anyone knows why this is appening?
