hp Storageworks 1/8 autoloader vs80 restart itself in the middle of backup

The autoloader will reset itself in the middle of the backup job. It gave an error "ERROR BC" at the front panel before reset.
I already tried this autoloader with Brightstor ARCserve ver9.01 and Networker Ver7.1. Same error i have.
Hope someone can help me up. Thanks

Hi,

It's a "drive bug check error" (from the manual)it says "cycle power on the autoloader and attempt the operation again,if the error recurs, contact your technical support representative)

*Try to update device driver firmware.
*Check scsi connection and termination.
*Use ultra2 scsi (or higher)
*Reconfigure device your device using arcserve device conf. wizard (providing with un update patches)
*Use OEM tape diagnotics tools for you to know if der's an option to revive your drive and loader.

hope this helps,

Re: hp Storageworks 1/8 autoloader vs80 restart itself in the middle of backup

Thanks for your quick reply.

*Try to update device driver firmware.
Already updated v5538

*Check scsi connection and termination.
SCSI card driver is up-to-date v6.1.640.100

*Use ultra2 scsi (or higher)
Is a compag 64-bit/66MHz Dual Channel Wide Ultra 3 SCSI Adapter

*Reconfigure device your device using arcserve device conf. wizard (providing with un update patches)

yes, is up-to-date.

*Use OEM tape diagnotics tools for you to know if der's an option to revive your drive and loader

I am using HP Storageworks Library and Tape Tools version 3.4. All the device information can be seen, but in the event log, it said the same thing Bugcheck error.

Re: hp Storageworks 1/8 autoloader vs80 restart itself in the middle of backup

Hi,

Im not familiar with HP diagnostic tools, anyway I suspect the error is more on the device . For you to confirm d's, try the ff. suggestion for isolation.

* Use formated and not recycled media (new)
this will help you if the error still exist even with a new media.

* Check power supply, SCSI cable connections, bent pins (try to use another one)

* Your SCSI card should be dedicated controller for tape.Try to use this for tape only. (be aware about proper termination)

* Use cleaning media (for vs80)

* Dont try to isolate this having with two backup software (legato and CA) installed from your system.

Also, if you can send those logs you generate, perhaps some HP guys will able to help you to determine the exact error for this.

Good Luck @@,?

Re: hp Storageworks 1/8 autoloader vs80 restart itself in the middle of backup

Can anyone assist me on this matter, This is the error log i got from brightstor tape.log. Is the error cause by incompatibility of tape drive with catrige? Or is the tape drive problem?

Re: hp Storageworks 1/8 autoloader vs80 restart itself in the middle of backup

I would try HBA driver 6.1.645. Get it from the HP website.

Pull off an LTT support ticket and post it here:

I might know what the problem is.

Thanks you everyone. My problem already solve after HP service engineer came and change the whole unit of autoloader. Now, my backup and recovery job are running successfully. Thanks
