hp colorado 20gb tape drive
internal. i am running win 98se. the software is ver 8.1 and firmware 4.01. it seems as if i have no power to the device. i put a tape in and the error message on the
backup software is that there is no tape in. well there is and the lock tab is
off. when i run the diagnostic program from hp, and it also says that i have no
tape in. i blew out the dust, as i have not used the device in over a year-- i
know shame on me....but still i would like to get it working. any thoughts
would be most appreciated.

Re: hp colorado 20gb tape drive
when running the diagnostics, there is an indication that there is a
Flash Code Image Checksum Error .................... ERROR 0x40A0
If this is the case the drive will appear to have no power and no tape will be detected because the firmware is corrupt and therefore the drive does not know what to do with the tape.
I have just repaired my drive which exhibited the above problem by reloading the firmware.
If this is the case leave me you email address and I will zip the floppy I used to repair mine. This should be much easier than having to build the disk as I had to do.

Re: hp colorado 20gb tape drive
I have the same problem with the corrupt firmware. It would be VERY much appreciated if you can e-mail or give me the source of the firmware you used to fix this problem. HP support say they are no longer supporting this drive. Thanks !!!
