msl 2024 FC

If I buy a MSL2024 with a 960 FC drive, will it work with a 1 gig brocade 2800 switch?

Thanks

Re: msl 2024 FC

Even if it worked - it wouldn't be a good idea. The 960 requires a high bandwidth, and is usually connected to (minimum) ULTRA3 SCSI which delivers 120MB/sec. It will only perform optimally on ULTRA320 (320MB/sec) - the maximum performance from 1GB Fibrechannel is 100MB/sec.

Re: msl 2024 FC

The drive will work on a 1gig FC link but as has already been mentioned that is not optimum.

The drive runs 80MB/s native and 160MB/s at 2:1 compression so with most data it won't run at full speed on 1Gb FC.

Note however that HP LTO tape drives do not have a stream fail or "Shoeshine" penalty. The drive has adaptive tape speed and huge buffers and is able to keep up with any host data rate between 0 and full speed. Most tape drives suffer a penalty and when they reposition they are unable to take data from the host at full speed but the repositioning does not penalize LTO drives.

If you primarily need the capacity then 1Gb should be fine.

Re: msl 2024 FC

Then I will go forward with this. Next upgrade will be to the 4 gig FC switches.

Thanks again
