replacing LTO-1 drive with LTO-2

Hi,
I have MSL5000(5030)library and I have only an LTO-2 drive to replace a faulty LTO-1 drive.
What steps do I have to take to do that?
Any firmware or configuration issues?
your quick response would be quickly rewarded and higly appreciated.
Thanks

If you want to mix different drives, make sure your backup application is aware of this!

Hope this helps!

Re: replacing LTO-1 drive with LTO-2

Thanks, but what I meant is can I just plug in the LTO-2 in place of the LTO-1 and power up the MSL?do I need to do some kind of reconfiguration on the MSL?
I actualy did pulg in the drive and when I checked the status of the drive it shows that the drive is "initailizing" and it stays like that with no ending.
Am thinking of deleting the old drve conf. and add new(configure) new one.
Do recomend this? please advise.
Thanks

Re: replacing LTO-1 drive with LTO-2

What is the product number of the LTO2 drive and what is the firmware version of the MSL?

Hope this helps!

Re: replacing LTO-1 drive with LTO-2

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ebs/pdf/MSL_Drive_upgrade_matrix_june2010.pdf

should give you the right answer.

Nothing to change in the config if the drive is supported.

Probably non a hotplug support but after a power down, it should recognize the drive

then you need to reconfigure your software

Also make sure that these drives are HP drives and not drive from Quantaum or Overland as the library will boot up with drive personality mismatch error

Re: replacing LTO-1 drive with LTO-2

The drive must be an HP automation tape drive. The standalone drives do not have the automation communication link and there are variations in automation communication between different library vendors. Often standalone drives are plugged in and they look like they are the same, even having the same connectors, but the standalone drive does support the automation interface even though the cable connects so a library can't manage the standalone drive.
