server cannot recognize surestore autoloader

I have rp2470 (HP-UX 11.00) with kernel driver stape loaded, a Surestore autoloader cannot be recognized by the server.

I searched almost all messages regarding this kind of problem and solution, but no lucky to get it solved. (stape kernel driver, insf -e, stm, and etc.)

Attached is ioscan log. The autoloader is connected to SCSI card with H/W path 0/0/2/0. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Re: server cannot recognize surestore autoloader

Hi there.
Looks like something with the cables.
Is mains connected and switched on ?
Is the SCSI cable the right one ?
Is it connected correctly to the server ?
Pls check and let us know.

Re: server cannot recognize surestore autoloader

What type of autoloader are you using? What type of drive do you have?

The surestore autoloaders range from DDS, to DLT, VS80, and LTO. They can also be SE, LVDS, or HVDS SCSI, so you need to make sure your card matches the device.

I don't think it's a driver issue at this point. The device (autoloader and drive) is not showing up in I/O scan, so it's most likely an issue with wrong device type (e.g. HVDS on LVDS or SE), wrong termination, bent pin, bad cable, etc.

You mentioned the path 0/0/2/0, which looks like a dual channel SE card. You also have an LVDS card (0/0/1/0) that does not have any devices on it. I think this is a built-in bus. If you have an LVD autoloader, than you would be best to hook it up there.

If you have an HVDS autoloader, I don't see any cards that would support it.

The journey IS the reward.

Re: server cannot recognize surestore autoloader

Well, the autoloader is 1/8 vs80, part# C9264CB, from its manual, it should be a LVD equipment. Do you mean it might be a problem to connect to 0/0/2/0, which is a SE card? I will try to connect to 0/0/1/0.

Re: server cannot recognize surestore autoloader

Hello,

Connect to 0/0/1/0, DEFINETELY.

You must change cable in order to attach to that port.

VHDCL to VHDCL.

Re: server cannot recognize surestore autoloader

I'd like to connect this 1/8 autloader to 0/0/1/0, could you please tell me what cable I have to use (part#)?

Re: server cannot recognize surestore autoloader

Hello,

Part number is 5064-2492 for the 2m version.

You asked about speeds of SE and LVD.

0/0/2/0 is a Narrow SCSI single-ended (SE) adapter, reaching speeds of 10Mb/sec.

0/0/1/0 is a Fast Wide SCSI2 LVD SCSI adapter, reaching speeds of 80Mb/sec.

The vs80 drive (or autoloader of course) is an LVD device, SCSI2.

So guess where it should work well? :-)

Re: server cannot recognize surestore autoloader

Highly appreciate for Vincent's suggestion. The ordered cable comes and the autoloader works very well!
