tape backup failed: could not locate user id 0
Hi,
We are running HP/UX 10.01 with an Exabyte 8700 8mm tape drive.
The backups have been running quite smoothly for a few days straight. However, I got the following message for last night's backup and am not sure how to fix it:
"echo 'Job failed because the system could not locate your user id 0 on machine hp735. Contact your System Administrator.' > /dev/console"
User id 0 is for root. We have no problems logging in with it, and it is still in the passwd file.
Thanks,
Monica.

Re: tape backup failed: could not locate user id 0
I forgot to mention that the script is called from another machine through batch software, but is actually located and run on the HP box.
I just tried running the backup script directly on the HP box, and it is working. So, it is a problem between the other unix box and the HP. I already verified that the .rhosts file exists and contains valid entries to allow the other machine to be able to run a local command on the HP box.
Thanks,
Monica.

Try to
remsh hpbox /sbin/shutdown
to verify login permissions.
remsh hpbox /sbin/shutdown
to verify login permissions.
It works for me (tm)
