I have a dds3 tape drive ,
Can I user dds4 tape on the dds3 tape drive??

Nope that will NOT work.

In a DDS3 drive, you can use DDS3, DDS2 and DDS tapes.

A DDS4 tape will *ONLY* work in a DDS4 tape drive.

They are not forward compatible just backwards.
