the driver detected a controller error on \Device\Tape0

We have a Compaq AIT 35/70 internal LVD tape backup that gives the driver detected a controller error on \device\tape0 in the event log of Win2k. We have moved it to another server and it gives the same results. We have loaded the latest firmware and driver caitw2i.sys version 1.00.0000.8. All tapes have been replaced several times. The drive worked for about a year before this problem started.

If you moved this device with SCSI cable and terminator, then please replace them first before blaming on drive :o) If it will not help, then drive probably is the cause. Try HP LTT (looks like drive is supported) from http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50128.html
