ultrium 215 and lxr pro8

Hi all

I have an lxr pro8.we r using dlt40 to take back up and it takes around 12 hrs for backing up 80gb of data.The tape drives r connected to the onboard scsi controller.

Now we r planning to go for ultrium 215(Will we get ultra-2 card along with the backup set?)).Will that improve the speed?

will there be any compatibility problem between lxr pro8 and ultrium??

the slow speed can be caused by your system, try to run PAT (Performance Assesment Tool) this will give you the rate of the simulated backup. this value have to meet the minimum transfer rate for ultrium otherwise you will encour in serius problem.

Hello,

You have no problem with the system. A DLT40 has a native trasfer rate of 1.5Mb/s.

80,000Mb / 1.5 = 53333.333s
53333 /3600 = 14.8 hours.

So it is working well.

I suggest you upgrade to a DLT8000 drive. Its sustained transfer rate is 6Mb/s, which is 4 times faster. The Ultrium 215's transfer rate is between 6.1-7.5Mb/s, so you won't gain much. Also, a DLT8000 media can hold up to 80Gb in one tape, which is your requirement. Ultrium holds 200Gb, which is excessive to your needs.

You have to buy an LVD or HVD SCSI/2 card in order for the DLT8000 to work. There are no DLT8000 drives on single-ended interface.
