upgrade 5gb external til 8gb - confused !!

Read many of the topics regarding this, still confused since many of the topics are from 2002 and maybe not valid any more ?
So: Is a firmware upgrade to 2.08 (which I have done) all that is needed, and will it
work ok when I get my ordered 4425 blank tapes,
or is something else also needed ????
