VLS9000 Error - HardwareCompression "Hardware compression card encountered a non-fatal error"

On VLS9000 - we got the following error of NOTIFICATIONS FOR HARDWARE COMPRESSION :

04/30/11 01:14:02 Node1 > HardwareCompression "Hardware compression card encountered a non-fatal

Soon after we also see error on Node1:

04/30/11 03:04:59 Node0 > HardwareCompression "Hardware compression card encountered a non-fatal

The Chasis shows "Degraded" (yellow) code. We would like to see "Good" (Green) code.

Any idea what this error is - and if there is any hardware failure to be checked?

Thanks -

Re: VLS9000 Error - HardwareCompression "Hardware compression card encountered a non-fatal error"

Decompression error is most of the case not due to a hw issue on the decompression card itself, but due to an error on the data
when the data are read and elaborated by the compression card, the crc of the data source are checked, and if there is a error, the data is assumed as invalid and an error related to decompression is reported.

what you should check in the logs is if the error is constantly reported on all the data that are read, or only related to a specific backup.

you may have a soft error on a data block related to a single location and then a single file will be affected, and a single cartridge, you are then able to restore all the files of that cartridge except one file, the one with the damaged block
when you have identified the cartridge just reformat it to clear the error

You may have a hw error, a damaged block on one HDD, and this usually continue to grow, so you may have errors related to a single file, or several files, and also several cartridges, but all involving a single drive.

Here you may have to investigate on the ADU report in order to identify the damaged disk
