Virtual Tape Library 6510

We have configured our new VLS 6510 system with no problems, but when trying to backup a system with Data Protector 6.0, the process seems to start but no backup takes place, the process just seems to go to la-la land and nothing happens. I can see both devices on my HP-UX system that the VLS presents. One thing that does differ is there is no "picker". Has anyone configured one of these? if so any help would be appreciated :)

Darren

the vls should present the library as a real library, so you should be able to see the picker and both drives.
The backup application should use it as a standard library (this is why it is called virtual library)
Be sure to have all latest patches for OS and DP

Re: Virtual Tape Library 6510

I have the OS and DP all patched up but when trying to perform a backup or anything with the device, the "picker" now seems to time out ...

Re: Virtual Tape Library 6510

it is not clear to me if you have discovered the picker or not, from your last post it seems you have the picker, but cannot manage it to work ??
As this emulate a real library, troubleshooting are the same, first be sure that the picker is correctly created and managed by your OS (ask linux specialist for that)
Then I would check in the switch if there are errors logged on the ports related to the VLS
From the command view, check if the parameters have fixed value (1 or 2 Gb) etc..
Do you have errors in the CV logs?

Re: Virtual Tape Library 6510

Good news!! I forced the OS to add the schgr to the kernel and after a reboot it found the picker address as the schgr instead of a Drive... woo hoo.. thanks for all of the help!!
