I have a customer with a very old lefthand unit that was running version 7 of SANi/Q, they recently bought some new units and after successful migration wanted the old units updated to the latest SANi/Q and deploy for re-use.
I upgraded fine from 7 to 8.1 however the update to 8.5 has killed the first lefthand device, on boot it just hangs at the "Booting the kernel." option on the splash screen...
Is there anything I can do to bring this unit back and should I even be thinking about updating them??

SolutionHello Colin,
There is a known issue with the DL320s platform running SANiQ OS version 8.5 that causes the unit to hang at "booting the kernel" screen. If a customer upgraded the ILO-2 FW from version 1.x to version 2.x BEFORE upgrading their SANiQ OS to version 9.x the system will hang at "booting the kernel" as the 8.x SANiQ OS only has the drivers for the ILO-2 FW 1.x. Luckily this is easily fixed by downrevving the ILO-2 FW back to version 1.x or by using the SANiQ quick restrore CD version 9.x, the latter will cause the entire device to be restored to stock version 9.x so ensure you have all data on the node replicated as any unreplicated data will be lost.
Here is a link to the advisory:
Hope this helps,
Jess

Re: DL320 Lefthand dead after 8.1 to 8.5 SANi/Q update
Jess - thank you, that looks like my issue.
Will see if they have the restore CD onsite and if not then try and get it downloaded, no data on these units now so can just blow them away and go straight to 9.
Thanks again
Colin
