Dedupe as a feature to the P4000 ecosystem?
Has anybody heard any news about adding dedupe as a feature to the P4000 ecosystem? I would think this would be on the top of HP's list of to-dos considering the hardware+network raid overhead.

Re: Dedupe
really? why do you say never... that rather definitive.
Considering even "low end" software sans such as the starwind option are promoting this new feature, I don't see why HP wouldn't want to stay up with the technology.

Re: Dedupe
StarWind's dedupe is crap. Let's hope if HP does put something out, it won't be crap. :)

Re: Dedupe
oh I do agree with that... thus the reason I'm in this forum and not theirs ;) Though I didn't think they had even released their dedupe yet.
Still... dedupe is a feature of most high end SANs are including now.

Re: Dedupe
Most of the high end san do file level dedup (if they emulate a CIFS or NFS share, single instance store).
On block level it would kill you're san , check the needs of a D2D system GC CPU + 98 ram and still it is slow.
And what about iops performance. The more you dedupe, you need lesser disk so why not put you' whole san on 20 2TB disks
