Hp c7000 with HP SB40c VSA ..ESX host and Windows host

I am new to HP Storage baldes.

My environment is like follows

HP c7000

3 blades HP BL460c G7 --- will be used as ESX hosts

3 storage blades HP SB40c

2 blades HP BL460c G7 -- will be used as Windows hosts

The total capacity on the Storage blades is 2.5TB.

I would like to use 1.5TB for the ESX hosts and 500GB each to the 2 blades whcih will have Windows OS.

How do we achieve this?

Thanks,

Suhail.

Hi,

U should see the SB40c as a DAS box. So the 6 disks in it are connected to the blade directly beside it... So in your case you will have 3 blqdes with a bigger storage volume...

If you want to assign some storage of it to the other blades, you will need to install some kind of NAS or SAN environment... Ideal in this case is the installation of P4000 VSA (aka Lefthand) virtual SAN appliances on the 3 ESX servers which will transform the SB40c boxes in SAN boxes... ANd so you can assign a part of it to the Windows servers...

Know that P4000 VSA's are not for free...

Thanks for the reply.

We have the VSA license. We created the VSA machines in our ESX, we got a total of 3.8TB. We craved 1.5TB for our VM LUNs.

One 500GB LUN assigned to Windows 2003 using Microsoft ISCI initator.
