Reclaim thin provisioned space on 2008 R2?

How can I reclaim space that has been thinly provisioned to a Windows 2008 R2 VM please?

I've recently created and then removed a big chunk of data on an NTFS volume on a 2008 R2 server.

The volume was directly mounted by the MS iSCSI initiator using with HP MPIO DSM.

I ran the sdelete tool from Sysinternals to zero the free space on the drive, but in the CMC it doesn't seem to have reclaimed the space.

Re: Reclaim thin provisioned space on 2008 R2?

Hmm OK.  So I followed the "Configuring HP P4000 SAN Solutions with Microsoft Windows Server" white paper and shrunk the volume in Windows 2008 R2, then resized in the CMC.

That has worked in that the CMC reports the volume is 1.5tb, however the CMC reports that it is consuming 4.04tb of space.

There are no snapshots, so I don't see how this can be?

I've logged a case but if anyone can explain I'd be grateful?

EDIT - and then ten minutes later the consumed space size in the CMC shows as 3tb as I expected... :)
