I have had no issues with pulling the BBU live and replacing it - I dont think it is prescribed HP technique but it has worked many times in the past for me. If you are worried about losing a node in a P4000 cluster then you need to think seriously about how well you trust the infrastructure and how well you have it setup.

If you are going to have a go at replacing the BBU live then you need to be sure that there is enough cabiling at the back of the rack to pull foward the node and open it up.

Not much point in trying to do it live then pulling out the network cables....
