VSS application error
Hi,
We currently have a Windows 2008R2 cluster running on 8 hosts, with Microsoft Hyper-V and Cluster Shared Volumes.
I've installed the latest HP P4000 Apllication Aware Snapshot, but when trying to backup any VM located on any host using DPM (and therefore the hardware VSS), I get an faulty module when calling the HP VSS.
Here is what is logged on the Application Event Log:
Faulting application name: LhnVssProvider.exe, version: 9.5.0.1004, time stamp: 0x4f1efc38
Faulting module name: Gauche.dll, version: 9.5.0.1076, time stamp: 0x4f1ef86b
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000000e7507
Faulting process id: 0x1434
Faulting application start time: 0x01cd33fe06b60471
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\HP\P4000\HP P4000 Application Aware Snapshot Manager\LhnVssProvider.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\HP\P4000\HP P4000 Application Aware Snapshot Manager\Gauche.dll
Report Id: fd6c355d-9ff1-11e1-9e4b-0025b3234a16
I've tried to uninstall and re-install the VSS provider, but no joy.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks,
Stephane

Re: VSS application error
do you have the HP DSM installed and working correctly?
I have a similar setup with a 2-node hyper-v cluster and dpm(was '10 and now '12) and have had no problem with the application aware snapshots.
The HP software needs to be installed on the hosts and not the DPM server as they are the ones making the connection.

Re: VSS application error
Yes, DSM is installed (on the Hosts, not DPM indeed) and is working fine (as far as I can see).
I've just tried to uninstall it and use Microsoft MPIO instead, but still the same error.
I also noticed that a new version was release, so I uninstalled the old version, restarted the host, installed the new version, restarted the host (for good measure), but the same error still occurs.

Re: VSS application error
I've just found a post stating that the Application Aware Snapshot does not support the use of Broadcom Adapters?
Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks,
Stephane

Re: VSS application error
Check that you have all the latest updates to 2008 R2 including Hyper-v.
Also make sure you are using the latest DSM.
Good luck :)
