Thin provisioning is good since you dont need to have spinning disks to support over provisioned volumes.
For example your customers may demand a 2 TB disk space whereas they would use only 200 GB out of it. With thin provisioning you can allocate 2 TB without actually having those many disks. If they customer really starts filling up the volume, then you will be alerted to help you add disk space.
You can thus save power and money.
