Howto sniff for duplex mismatch on a switch during file transfer, for example over FTP?

It's not the most specific way but baselining the CRC/Alignment errors and number of packets and estimating the proportion of bad packets will let you know if the link is bad.

show interface , or an SNMP query will get you those.

Seeing 'late collisions TX' is a more specific indicator but you only see it at the half-duplex end.
