2000 Server Install

My company presently has a 14 workstation peer to peer network and is going to upgrade to a client-server in the next couple of months. I wanted to do a trial install on my home network to familiarize myself with 2000 server before I am just thrown into it. I am presently attempting to install 2000 server on one of my machines as a Domain Controller. Everytime I try to install Active Directory it errors out saying "The Jet Database failed to inititialize (Error-1018)

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim:

Are you installing on a compressed drive? See: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318116

Re: 2000 Server Install

No,the drive is not compressed. Both drives are frshly formatted NTFS drives. SCSI 4 gig IBM Boot and 47 gig Seagate data drive.

Thanks for your prompt reply

Re: 2000 Server Install

Jim:

The implication of the error message is that a disk Read Verify Failure occurred. Based on that, I would suggest that you thoroughly check you SCSI subsystem for cable/termination/configuration problems and run a surface analysis program on your hard disk drive(s).

Good luck!
