2410-24-PWR fan noise

We have recently installed a 2410-24-PWR POE switch for a new IP telephone system.

The issue we have is the fan noise is beyond belief. The ambient temperature in the rack is around 18 degrees C and the fan noise from the unit is more than all of our servers, telephone systems and switches combined. The term jumbo Jet comes to mind ..

Is this a firmware problem with these units or is this what is expected ?

Can we control the fan from the CLI interface ?

Cheers
Tony

Re: 2410-24-PWR fan noise

If I'm not mistaken you have a 2610PWR (2410 does not exist). That has an acoustic output of:

Power:59 dB
Pressure: 53.2 dB
DIN 45635T.19 per ISO 7779

Fans are not controllable through CLI, but I think the 2610 has variable speed fans and are controlled automatically.

Re: 2410-24-PWR fan noise

Thanks Scooter,

Yes, my typo. definitely a 2610 unit.

The unit is so noisy that I find it difficult to understand that there is not an issue with the fan controller.

Re: 2410-24-PWR fan noise

Tony,

When you reload the switch (pull the power plug), do the fans speed up (full blast) and then settle down or do they stay on at full speed? If they stay on full speed and the temp. is really 18 degress C than you might have a defective unit. In this case, lifetime warranty = call support to get it replaced.
