2524 lose its marbles?

I just had a 2524 lose link over a gigabit fibre link. I tried opening the web management, nothing. Tried telnet over the network, nothing. Tried telnet over serial cable, nothing. So as a last step before calling HP I did a factory reset.

Now I can get access to the switch via serial cable but it doen't recognise the password I set it to. Is there a default password? (I only remember it being blank before).

Thanks in advance.

Did you try to clear the password with the clear button?

Re: 2524 lose its marbles?

Are you sure you did a factory reset and not only a reset?
The factory reset should clear the password also.
From the manual:

To execute the factory default reset on the switch, perform these steps:
1. Using pointed objects, simultaneously press both the Reset and Clear
buttons on the front of the switch.
2. Continue to press the Clear button while releasing the Reset button.
3. When the Self Test LED begins to blink, release the Clear button.
The switch will then complete its self test and begin operating with its
configuration restored to the factory default settings.

You can also only clear the password.
Also from the manual:

If you lose the passwords, you can clear them by pressing the Clear button on
the front of the switch. This action deletes all password and user name
protection from all of the switch├в s interfaces.

Hope this helps.

and of course, you're right. I didn't reset it properly. Its back up now, with new firmware. Thanks :)

(didn't fix the underlying problem though, it looks like someone parked a shed on the fibre that went off last night)
