2650 multihomed to two 3400 (acting as core backbone)

Senario: Two 3400cl switches acting as core switches in meshed domain. Dual nic servers are connected to them (one nic to each 3400cl). Four distribution switches (2650 and 2626) for workstations with multiple VLANS per distribution switch.

Can the 2600 series work well within a mesh domain with one uplink port connected to each 3400cl for uplink redundancy?

Hi

First of all, ProCurve switch Meshing and routing can't work together on the same switch.

Second thing, 2600 dosn;t support ProCurve Switch Meshing.

If yo uare looking at switch meshing with Vlans for redundancy, then and if you are talking about Full Mesh, then yes it works fine specailly if you enabled the MSTP so you will be having a very nice setup.

But in your case what you are missing is one more link between each edge switch as resilient link.

You have 4 edge and 2 core, links will be like * edge1-edge2, edge2-edge3, edge3-edge4, edge4-edge1
* edge1-core1/core2, edge2-core1/core2, edge3-core1/core2, edge4-core1/core2.
* core1-core2

Then enable MSTP, with 2 instances (or more) each has multiple VLans, and make Core1 is root for instance1, Core2 is root for instance2.

Then you will be having a nice load balanced topology with full redudancy.

No link will be really blocked, since if it may be blocked for instance1, but it will be working for instance2.

Good Luck !!!

Re: 2650 multihomed to two 3400 (acting as core backbone)

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I'm aiming for:
*core1-core2(meshed between the two cores).
*edge1-core1/core2, edge2-core1/core2, edge3-core1/core2, edge4-core1/core2.

I need to know if there will be a need for one more link between each edge switch as resilient link.

The preference is to have a 2 links to from the edge switches to the core switches for high availability and load balancing. Therefore none of the edge to core links should be blocked.

Re: 2650 multihomed to two 3400 (acting as core backbone)

Hi

Yes you can do that, if you don't want edge-to-edge link even its better to have it unless you have some other restrictions like distance limitation or fiber issues .....

And Core-to-Core link make it a Trunk of 4 links for both load balancing and redundancy.

And i nthis setup, make Core1 is Root for Instance1, and Core2 is root for instance2.

Good Luck !!!

Re: 2650 multihomed to two 3400 (acting as core backbone)

To mesh or not to mesh?

We have two 3400cl connected to a number of edge 2900 running MSTP using two instances.

*core1-core2 (meshed between the two cores)
*edge1-core1/core2, edge2-core1/core2 etc.

What do you recommend. Trunk or mesh between the core switches?

Connections between the edge switches. Useful in what scenario?
