2848 VLANs for failover

Hi - I have inherited a Cisco 5520 Active/Standby configuration. 2 FWs, each with all 4 interfaces being used, FW failover link is via the management interface on the 5520s. An HP 2650/2848 switch is being used to connect corresponding interfaces from each FW e.g. for the inside network, a cable from the inside interface on each of the FWs is plugged into a 2848, and the same scenario for the rest of the 3 networks. In order to make the design more redundant, I am thinking of using VLANs on two 2848s i.e. trunk two 2848s - create VLANs for each network on each 2848 - plug interfaces from FWs into corresponding VLANs - uplink VLANs to appropriate networks - also, possibly use a VLAN for hearbeat between the FWs. Also, from what I understand all routing is being done by the FWs. Will this work?
