4000 M Password

Is there a way to reset the manager password?

Re: 4000 M Password

The easiest way is to press reset and clear. Release reset, and when the self test light begins to blink, release clear. Unfortunately, this will restore the entire switch to factory defaults. But it does clear the manager password.

Re: 4000 M Password

Page 3-9 of ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/59692320.pdf says that you have to press the RESET button to clear the password. I personally had to hold the RESET button down a few seconds before the password is wiped out. I don't think that the rest of the settings are affected.

Re: 4000 M Password

From the Management & Configuration Guide:
If You Lose a Password
If you lose the passwords, you can clear them by pressing the Clear button on
the front of the switch. This action deletes all password and user name
protection for both the web browser interface and the switch console.
The Clear button is provided for your convenience, but its presence means
that if you are concerned with the security of the switch configuration and
operation, you should make sure the switch is installed in a secure location,
such as a locked wiring closet.

*argh* What was I doing? It's the CLEAR button, not the RESET button. :)

Re: 4000 M Password

The clear button is a better alternative. Upon closer reading, it's what I should have been thinking of in the first place.

Re: 4000 M Password

I have looked and looked, but I do not have a clear switch on my 4000n.

I have a menu button, item, value, select, and cancel job plus the big green go button. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Re: 4000 M Password

Hi Ken -

The Clear button is a hardware button and is physically located on the front of the switch, near the Console connector.

Re: 4000 M Password
