4000M to Cisco 3550g48 via fiber

I want to hook up a HP4000M to a Cisco 3550G48 via fiber. On the cisco side I set the Giga port to dot1q trunk, swithport mode trunk and non-negotiate. What do I have to do on the HP side to make this thing work. There is only 2 vlans on the cisco side, mgmt and users. I am not familiar with the HP stuff. Any help is appreciated.

thanks

On HP you define the VLANs and then you set the VLAN that is native on the cisco to untagged on the HP and all others to tagged on the HP.
The HP only now about 802.1q so you dont have to do anything about that.
Another thing to think about is that the HP only have one spanningtree and not per VLAN spanningtree as the cisco have (if you are using spanningtree that is).

On the HP, do I have to assign port J1 (fiber) to a trunk group and set it to trunk.

Re: 4000M to Cisco 3550g48 via fiber

Remember that "trunk" on HP switch = "ether channel" on the Cisco switch.
This is what you need in config-advanced-vlan:
- define vlan name and id corresponding to the cisco side
- assign these vlans to the J1 port as tagged (one of these may be untagged if the corresponding vlan in the Cisco switch is untagged)
That's all! No trunk settings needed for 1 port.
The gig-port on the 4000 is also set to no-negotiation on flow control (other HP switches have default settings to auto negotiate flow-control)
