Re: 4104GL Gigabit to 100Mb Performance Painfully Slow

I'm also having a similar issue. But the switch I'm using only has J4908A modules. I've spoken with hp many times. I was told they are working on the issue.

I had the same problem with a 2824, hp sent me a new firmware for it and now it is ok.

I know of others with the same issue. Hopefully they will release a firmware or something to correct this issue soon.

It appears the only work around is to force the 1000Mb interfaces to 100Mb.

Re: 4104GL Gigabit to 100Mb Performance Painfully Slow

I'm having this exact problem with the 2848 only it doesnt go away when forcing the port speed. Currently I have all non Gig traffic going to an old 10/100 switch with Gig uplink to HP and the 10/100 machines work great this way.
Oh I have tried FW 7.31 and 8.55 but saw no difference.

Re: 4104GL Gigabit to 100Mb Performance Painfully Slow

HP sent me instuctions for the 2824, it was a special procedure for upgrading the firmware to 8.55. Here is what they sent me.

1) Update the firmware to I.07.64 and reboot (this performs both a ROM and firmware upgrade).
2) Update the firmware to I.08.55 and
reboot (this performs another firmware and ROM update).
3) at the command prompt for the ProCurve 2800, type "config" and enter,
4) then type "qos-passthrough" and enter.
5) "write mem" and enter,
6) "boot" and enter.

Hopefully that helps with your 2848.

So is it the QOS_passthrough part that fixes this? I did the rest when I updated to 8.55.

I'm not really sure. I did not test it before and after. If you try it let me know.

I tried the "QOS-passthrough-mode" and "NO LACP" but did not see any change.

Re: 4104GL Gigabit to 100Mb Performance Painfully Slow

The command I used did have the "-mode" on the end. I don't know if that makes a differnce or not.

I would contact HP about it if its still not working.

As for the 4100 series I was told this is a hardware limitation. And HP will work with us to come up with a solution that works.

The -mode part is from HP support.
I am working with HP support now and will post the results when I have them.

Re: 4104GL Gigabit to 100Mb Performance Painfully Slow

The qos-passthrough-mode did resolve this issue for me on my 2848.
Unbeknownst to me I was having problems with the server I was testing on and it botched the network test. Once I replaced the server the switch worked as it should. To be sure I back out the change and the problem reappeared.

Re: 4104GL Gigabit to 100Mb Performance Painfully Slow

Hi Chris, I have exactly the same problem after installing a netgear 24 port unmanaged gigabit switch.

Transfer from the x serve to 100 base clients is really slow.

Any Ideas?
