4108GL and Multicasting

We use a Novell multicasting solution for imaging workstations. We have noticed that when we do this all of the ports installed in the switch show a mrked increase in utilization. not just the two computers in question. Is this a "feature" of multicasting.

Re: 4108GL and Multicasting

The 4100 switch uses whats known as IGMP snooping when IGMP is enabled. This means it will continue to forward multicast packets to all ports until a IGMP join is recieved from the Zen works client. Once the join is recieved the switch will prune back the packets and only send them to the clients that have joined the multicast group or in this case the PC's that are being imaged.

Make sure the PC's boot from the Zen client software floopy and the server is configured for multicasting. IGMP also nees to be enabled on the switch.
There is nothing more permanent then a temporary solution
