Multimode fiber about 35yrds away terminated in a junction box on each end then we use patch cables. Funny thing is when we put the old hubs back in w/ media converters it works.

Lower school - as in forms C through II?
Anyway, it would be goodness to run spanning tree. I agree with the others that some sort of loop sounds plausible. What do the per-port stats suggest?
I suppose it might not hurt to be up on the latest versions of firmware on the switches. There can be minimum versions for different add-ons and such.
