54xx port setting - limit port speed to 100Mb max

Hi All,

I'm trying to find out if there is a way to limit the UTP ports to 100meg max. While I can set them to 10 OR 100 OR 1000 there doesn't seem to be a way to limit them to 10/100.

All our new workstations have 10/100/1000 NIC's in, and although they can be set to be 100meg max I'd like to make sure that if one computer slips through the net it can't start banging out data at 1000.

From what I can see so far there doesn't appear to be an option to set a max. port speed and also allow negotiation to a lower speed.

Any thoughts?

Cheers, Will

Good question. On these workstations when you change their settings to 100Mbit, is it to 100Fdx or 100Hdx? (Just want to make sure you don't create a duplex mismatch by forcing them to 100Fdx and then setting the switch to auto-100).

For this to work, the workstations would also need an option to set them to 'auto' negotiate their duplex and only up to 100Mbit. Otherwise you would have to force them to 100Hdx and the switch would then happily auto negotiate down to half duplex.

I agree with you that there doesn't appear to be a way to set a max port speed and allow for lower speed negotiations.

Good news, with the latest firmware K.12.05 HP have added a new 'auto-10-100' command that will let you achieve this.
